Summer Pet Insect Prevention Guide: 6 Common Mosquito Prevention Methods

Mosquitoes are one of the animals that I detest the most in the world! Although they are small in size, they pose great harm.
For hairy children, mosquito bites are more common because not only mosquitoes, but also various other small insects are troubling them. Mosquito bites are generally not a big problem, redness, swelling, itching, and pain are the most common, but some belong to the category of parasites, so it is still necessary to be vigilant.

Summer Pet Insect Prevention Guide: 6 Common Mosquito Prevention Methods

01 Flea
Fleas are one of the most common ectoparasites in hairy children, mainly feeding on blood. After being bitten by fleas, due to itching, the hair will scratch or bite the skin, causing skin damage and even infection with ulcers.
The area bitten by fleas is very small, more like a red dot, especially in areas with fur that are difficult to detect. If a furry child often scratches the skin, you can use a comb to comb the hair and see if there is flea feces like dust on it. Flea feces turn red when exposed to water, which is the simplest detection method.
Fleas are parasites, and regular deworming can effectively prevent them.
02 Mosquito
Mosquitoes are well-known and can cause greater harm to humans than hairy children. Because hairy children have fur on their bodies, it is a natural barrier against mosquitoes. However, areas with sparse fur, such as the abdomen, ears, inner thighs, and groin, can still be attacked by mosquitoes.
Mosquito bites do not require treatment, only children who are allergic to mosquito bites need treatment. However, mosquitoes can transmit heartworm disease, which is a very terrifying endoparasitic parasite. The incidence rate of heart filariasis in China is not high, but cases are reported every year.
There are many methods for mosquito removal, and physical mosquito removal (screen windows) is more recommended indoors. Pet friendly mosquito repellent can be chosen outdoors. Mosquito removal products must be labeled carefully. Some are toxic to both cats and dogs, while others are toxic to cats.
03 Bees, wasps, wasps, etc
Various long spined bees will experience severe pain when stung, and the caterpillar may suddenly bark and try to lick the stung area. If the sting is on the limbs, it will still limp. The stinging area will have local swelling and redness. After being stung, one should immediately apply ice packs and ice for 5-10 minutes to reduce swelling. Some hairy children may experience severe allergic reactions after being stung, including facial swelling, urticaria, difficulty breathing, severe itching, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you have such symptoms, go to the hospital immediately.
04 Ants
Dogs playing in grass and other places may also be bitten by ants. After being bitten by ants, a small bump will appear on the skin, and white pus will flow out after it breaks.
After being bitten by ants, ice can also be applied to reduce swelling and pain. Being bitten by ants may also cause allergic reactions, similar to being stung by bees. Once detected, seek medical attention immediately.
The best preventive measure for bees and ants is to avoid them and pay attention to observing the honeycomb and ant holes. Generally speaking, these types of insect bites are for self-defense, following the principle of “I won’t offend you, I won’t offend you”. Therefore, curious dogs are often accidentally injured, and it’s often the nose area. Who makes them love to smell them so much?
05 Ticks
Ticks mainly live in grasslands and shrubs. When hairy children pass by, they jump onto their bodies and parasitize on the surface of their skin, sucking blood for food.
The skin bitten by ticks appears to be an inflamed circular area, and after removing the ticks, there may be swelling or scabbing. Hairy children may bite or scratch due to itching or pain. Ticks can parasitize various parts of a caterpillar’s body, but the most common ones are still its limbs, neck, head, and ears.
Ticks are relatively large and visible to the naked eye. Once discovered, they should be cleaned with tweezers, but the technique should be accurate. Do not remove half of them, leaving the other half in the meat, which can cause inflammation.
A flea repellent is also effective against ticks.
06 Mites
Mites are very small, invisible to the naked eye, and even after being bitten, they are not visible. Generally speaking, in areas where mites gather, the skin and hair of hair follicles may not be well preserved, leading to hair loss and the formation of alopecia areata. Certain types of mites can cause skin itching, while others can lead to secondary bacterial infections, causing skin redness and swelling. The work of removing mites is a long and arduous task.
Of course, the work of deworming should not be careless, it is a typical example of spending small money to accomplish big things. Regularly combing hair for a furry child can also help detect signs of being bitten in a timely manner. If a child often scratches, bites, or grasps their skin, it is important to thoroughly examine that area.
