The method of training dogs to sit down

The majority of dog sitting training methods use collars. But a few days ago, in a book, I found a British dog trainer introducing the “food sitting down method”, which felt very good. Here, I will share with you:

1. The dog owner can first take out a piece of food and put it on the dog’s nose for it to smell. Then slowly lift the small food over the dog’s head. At this point, the puppy will naturally lift its nose and tilt its head back with the food.

2. At this point, your hand holding the food should remain stationary, and the puppy will find it easier to get things while sitting than standing. Dogs naturally sit down. If the puppy jumps up and grabs food, you can lower the food a bit.
3. Once the puppy’s buttocks touch the ground, a reward can be given. After that, repeat the training and add the command “sit”.

4. How to train dogs to sit for long periods of time? The dog owner can command the dog to sit down facing the owner and slowly leave the dog one to two steps away. If the dog shows signs of standing up when the owner is moving, the command to “sit” should be repeated to make the dog sit back in its original position.

reminder:
1. In the early stages of training, if the dog is only required to remain stationary for 10 seconds, immediate rewards should be given. Afterwards, the dog’s sitting time should be gradually extended, and a consolidation and improvement training method should be adopted to achieve 1-2 minutes.
2. While cultivating sitting delay, it is also necessary to gradually extend the distance between the dog owner and the dog, adopting a method of alternating distance from near to far, until the dog is hidden 20 meters away and can still sit still.
3. After the dog can smoothly obey commands and make actions in a quiet environment, you can then train the dog in complex environments to enhance its anti-interference ability. In complex environmental conditions, a dog’s movements are easily influenced by external stimuli, so it is necessary to use coercion appropriately to gradually adapt the dog.
