“Waiting” is one of the important basic training, which is repeated until the dog can obey this command, in order to stop the dog from doing bad or dangerous behavior in advance. And this training is even more useful for some dogs who are usually very active.
1. Let the dog wear a collar, give it a “sit” command, and then make a “stop” gesture to the dog, making it wait. If it moves, start over. If it doesn’t move, continue to encourage it until the dog can hold on for 2 minutes.
2. You gradually step back 1 to 2 steps, keeping the dog in place and waiting, if the dog remembers to come to you. You should stop and continue to make a “stop” gesture until the dog no longer stands up, and then continue to move backwards.
3. During this process, you keep saying “stop” to the dog and still making a “stop” gesture, making it wait.
4. When the dog continues to wait in place for the expected amount of time, return to the original location and give it food encouragement, making the dog understand that the owner can leave while waiting. Once this training is mastered, it will be much more convenient for you to take your dog out: whether it’s waiting to cross the road or chatting with acquaintances, the dog won’t run aimlessly~
